Chandigarh, May 22, 2025: Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Thursday inaugurated infrastructure development projects worth ₹1.49 crore in government schools of the Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency, under the state’s flagship Sikhya Kranti initiative. He said the ongoing wave of development in government schools is a true reflection of the education revolution underway in Punjab.
Addressing a gathering during the inaugural ceremonies, Bains highlighted that massive development works worth crores of rupees are being carried out in government schools, with additional grants to be released soon—particularly for rural institutions—to equip them with modern facilities.
Among the projects inaugurated were development works worth ₹17 lakh at PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Massewal. Under the Holistic Development Plan, ₹40 lakh was allocated to Government Primary School, Jeowal. Repair works costing ₹7.51 lakh were carried out at Government Primary School, Massewal; ₹7.64 lakh at Government Primary School, Cheekna; ₹7.51 lakh at Government Primary School, Baruwal; ₹2.55 lakh at Government Primary School, Daboora (Lower) in addition to ₹18 lakh for a boundary wall; and ₹2.55 lakh for Government Primary School, Majher along with ₹60,000 for its boundary wall. Additionally, ₹17 lakh was spent on comprehensive renovation of Government Senior Secondary School, Massewal, and ₹9 lakh on the construction of a boundary wall at Government Middle School, Daboora (Lower).
Bains noted that Punjab’s government schools are now equipped with modern facilities such as security personnel, campus management systems, transport services, Wi-Fi, advanced science labs, digital libraries, contemporary furniture, staff rooms, administrative offices, accessible infrastructure, and more—amenities previously limited to private or model schools.
During his visit, the Minister reviewed ongoing projects and highlighted encouraging trends such as rising girl student enrolment. At Massewal School, there are 321 girl students enrolled compared to 312 boys, reflecting improved gender parity.
He also pointed to transformative initiatives like the ‘School of Happiness’ in Lakher, which is providing education to children from the remote Changer region without requiring long commutes, and the construction of a ₹12 crore ‘School of Eminence’ in Kiratpur Sahib.
For improved connectivity, Bains announced the construction of an 18-foot-wide road between Tarapur and Massewal, with work on the Tarapur to Samlah stretch progressing on priority.
He further assured that the renovation and widening of multiple roads across the constituency will commence shortly, as all administrative approvals have been secured.
Concluding his address, Bains stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab is witnessing holistic development. He credited the government for successfully preserving the state’s depleting water resources—now set to benefit agricultural fields and the Changer region—boosting regional prosperity.
Local residents honoured Harjot Singh Bains for his efforts to improve educational infrastructure in the region.
