Civil Defence mock drills in Ferozepur test air strike preparedness
Officers from all 12 Civil Defence Services participated in mock drill
Ferozepur, May 31, 2025: Even though the situation between India and Pakistan is not war-like, still, on the instructions of the Union Home Ministry, Civil Defence Ferozepur conducted a mock drill at the local Municipal Council on Saturday evening. Officers from all 12 Civil Defence Services participated in this mock drill conducted under Operation Shield.
The sound of air strike sirens echoed across Ferozepur as mock drills were conducted to enhance civil defence preparedness under Operation Shield – Punjab’s statewide initiative to strengthen emergency response capabilities in the face of potential air threats.
The drills began at the Municipal Council campus with the active participation of police, Punjab Home Guard and Civil Defence personnel. To sensitise residents about the safety measures of an air strike, officials conducted a briefing on standard precautions, including taking cover in designated shelters and staying away from windows.
As soon as the siren signalled the start of the simulated air raid, participants quickly moved to safe areas or lay down on the ground, carefully following the instructions. Those who followed the safety protocols were marked as “safe”, while those who failed to comply were designated as simulated deadly”.
Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Deepshikha Sharma, SP Headquarters Naveen Kumar, Civil Defense Ferozepur under the leadership of Civil Defense District Commandant Kamalpreet Singh Dhillon, Chief Warden Parminder Singh Thind, Deputy Chief Warden Prem Nath Sharma, Post Warden Arun Sharma, Post Warden Rajesh Khanna, Post Warden Sukhdev Singh, Post Warden Dalbir Singh, Post Warden Rajiv Badwa and all warden services and officers participated in this mock drill.
During this rehearsal conducted to make the general public aware, the entire rescue team was led by Rupinder Singh, Company Commandant, Parminder Singh, Company Commandant, Ravi Vij and the entire Civil Defence team.
On this occasion, Civil Defence Company Commander Rupinder Singh, who was on the stage, informed the city residents about the mock drill and blackout, and also informed them how the siren would sound in a dangerous situation.
The extensive exercises also included evacuation of the injured by ambulance and fire-control demonstrations led by the fire brigade. The exercise concluded with a symbolic blackout rehearsal, which further reinforces the importance of emergency preparedness to protect life and property during airstrikes.
