In order to persuade the Punjab Government to enact an anti-sacrilege law, a delegation of the Sarv Dharam Beadabi Rokoo Kanoon Morcha (Tower Morcha) from Samana, which has been ongoing since October 12, met Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and the 15-member Select Committee Chairman Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar at the Assembly Secretariat under the leadership of Bhai Gurpreet Singh, Morcha Coordinator.
During the meeting, information was shared about the ongoing 286-day protest of Bhai Gurjeet Singh Khalsa, who has been atop a 400-foot tower, and concerns were raised regarding his deteriorating health. Bhai Gurjeet Singh Khalsa’s mother, Parmjeet Kaur, appealed for the lawmaking process to be expedited so her son can safely return home after the success of the Morcha.
Morcha Coordinator Bhai Gurpreet Singh, in separate meetings with Speaker and Chairman, explained in detail the unity conferences and collective efforts undertaken by the Morcha to gather opinions from all religions for the proposed law. He assured the Select Committee of complete cooperation in facilitating meetings with leaders of all religious communities to ensure timely completion of the committee’s work.
He also suggested launching a portal to gather public opinion. Additionally, both dignitaries were invited to participate in the ‘Sarv Sanjha Dharam Ka Jaikara’ Unity Conference to be held at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib on August 3.
When Chairman Dr. Nijjar urged Bhai Gurjeet Singh Khalsa to climb down from the tower, Bhai Gurpreet Singh clarified that he would remain steadfast at the protest site until the law is enacted, as per his vow.
On this occasion, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, a member of the 15-member Select Committee, was also present. He assured his full commitment to supporting the creation of laws for the protection of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and other sacred religious texts.
