Chandigarh Records 184.8 mm Rainfall in July 2025, 32% Below Normal; Temperature Peaks at 36.9°C

Chandigarh experienced a total rainfall of 184.8 millimeters during July 2025, which is 32% lower than the normal precipitation for the month, according to the Meteorological Centre, Sector 39-C. The city saw a deficit in rainfall compared to the average of 273.2 mm, continuing a trend of below-normal monsoon rainfall in recent years.
The highest rainfall recorded in July 2025 was 211.8 mm at the city’s UT area, with the maximum single-day rainfall measurement being 39.2 mm on July 31. Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Airport station reported a monthly rainfall of 207.5 mm.
Temperature readings showed the highest maximum temperature reaching 36.9 degrees Celsius on July 27, lower than the previous 10-year maximum average of 40.8°C recorded in 2021. The lowest temperature recorded was 24.3 degrees Celsius on July 10, slightly higher than the previous 10-year minimum average.
Over the past decade, Chandigarh’s July rainfall has varied significantly, with a high of 760.7 mm recorded in 2023 and a low of 131.1 mm in 2016. The 2025 rainfall figure aligns with several other years of deficient rainfall, posing challenges for urban water management and agriculture in the region.
Meteorological officials have advised residents and farmers to remain updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during the remaining monsoon period. The city’s average July maximum and minimum temperatures have remained relatively stable, reflecting typical summer climatic conditions for the region.
