Chandigarh, August 1, 2025 – The Punjab Government’s Finance Department has issued an urgent directive to all managing directors and chief executive officers of State PSUs, Boards, Corporations, and Apex Co-operative Institutions to provide details of Development Tax deductions for Class C and D employees, as the process to abolish the tax is underway.
The directive, issued by the Directorate of Public Enterprises and Disinvestment, follows a request from the State Tax Commissioner, Patiala, seeking data on the ₹200 per month Development Tax deductions for the month of June 2025 (paid in July).
Officials have been instructed to submit the required deduction details by 6 PM today, as per the proforma provided. The communication underscores the urgency and importance of this exercise, which is likely a precursor to officially scrapping the tax for the concerned employee categories.
The government has also forwarded the directive to administrative secretaries and financial commissioners for prompt action and coordination with respective institutions.
This move is expected to bring financial relief to lower-category government employees in Punjab.
