Amritsar (Punjab), August 1, 2025: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has removed Dr. Karamjit Singh, Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, from the committee constituted to review the service rules of the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
"The decision came after a video went viral on social media showing Dr. Singh allegedly expressing anti-Sikh views during a discussion with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief. The remarks sparked outrage among the Sikh community," stated SGPC.
SGPC Secretary S. Pratap Singh confirmed the removal, stating that in response to objections raised by the Sangat, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami took immediate action.
"Dr. Karamjit Singh has been relieved of his role in the committee to preserve the sanctity and sentiments attached to the apex temporal seat of the Sikh community," SGPC further stated.
