Rs 62 lakh cash recovered from car in Gurdaspur

Gurdaspur (Punjab), July 3, 2026: Punjab Police seized ₹62 lakh in cash from a car and detained two men from Gujarat during a vehicle checking operation at an entry point in Gurdaspur early Friday.
According to police, the cash was recovered during a checkpoint at Babri Naka, where officers were conducting routine inspections of vehicles entering the city.
DSP Shahbaz Singh said the police intercepted a white Hyundai Creta that was being driven without a registration number plate. During the inspection, the two occupants failed to produce documents related to the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of ₹62 lakh in cash.
The two men have been handed over to the Income Tax Department for further investigation into the source and legality of the cash.
Police said further inquiries are underway.
