New Delhi, July 3, 2026: Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has clarified that his recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah was focused solely on Punjab's security situation and border-related concerns, dismissing speculation that it had any political significance.
Speaking to the media, Randhawa said he had sought the appointment with the Home Minister in advance and that the meeting was held to discuss key law-and-order issues facing Punjab.
"My meeting with the Union Home Minister was completely non-political. It should not be viewed through a political lens," Randhawa said.
He said that, as a border state, Punjab is facing multiple security challenges, and he raised concerns over issues such as gangster activity and the alleged use of mobile phone networks by criminals operating from inside prisons.
Randhawa also reiterated his commitment to the Congress party, saying he continues to discharge his responsibilities with sincerity.
"I hold an important position in the Congress party and I am performing my duties with complete honesty," he said.
Responding to a question on reported differences between former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and the Congress high command, Randhawa declined to comment, saying Channi himself would be the best person to answer such questions.
