Chandigarh/Morinda, July 3, 2026: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Friday said former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi would be welcomed into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if he chose to join, even as the Punjab Congress continues to witness internal dissent following the appointment of its new office-bearers.
Addressing a press conference, Dhillon said, "If Charanjit Singh Channi joins the BJP, we will welcome him. Whoever joins the BJP will be satisfied."
His remarks came as Channi convened a meeting in Morinda, attended by more than 50 former ministers and former MLAs, amid discontent within the Punjab Congress over the party high command's recent organisational appointments.
Commenting on the Congress's internal situation, Dhillon alleged that the ongoing infighting had left the party's grassroots workers disappointed and questioned the party's political future in the state.
The Punjab BJP chief also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government, alleging that it had failed to fulfil its commitments. Referring to the government's promises regarding financial assistance for women, including the proposed ₹1,000–₹1,500 monthly benefit, Dhillon questioned the implementation of the scheme and accused the government of failing on multiple fronts.
The BJP leader's remarks come at a time when the Punjab Congress is witnessing heightened internal activity, with Channi's meeting being viewed as a significant show of support within the party. However, neither Channi nor the Congress has responded to Dhillon's invitation or comments.
