District Bar Association Ferozepur declares hunger strike until LADC policy is withdrawn
Ferozepur, July 19, 2026: The District Bar Association, Ferozepur, has extended its full support to the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and reaffirmed its commitment to continue the ongoing “No Work Day” strike by sitting on hunger strike and other protest programmes until the proposed Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) Policy is withdrawn.
The District Bar Association, Ferozepur, also announced the names of advocates who have volunteered to participate in the district-level hunger strike as part of the ongoing agitation. The volunteers include Advocates Shalinder Bhalla, Manish Khera, Manjit Singh Jossan, Rohit Arora, Prem Pal Handa, Peter Bhatti, Tarsem Arora, Anoop Sharma, Pardeep Mehta, H.C. Gupta, Lalita, and Varinder Singh.
Addressing the media, Neel Rattan, Secretary of the District Bar Association, said the association stands firmly with the statewide movement being spearheaded by the Joint Action Committee of Bar Associations of Punjab, Haryana, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The committee has expressed serious concerns that the LADC Policy poses a significant threat to the livelihood and professional independence of advocates.
He said that, in line with the JAC’s decision, the indefinite “No Work Day” strike will continue until the policy is either withdrawn or terminated. To further intensify the agitation, the committee has also announced district-wise hunger strikes across the region.
Neel Rattan added that advocates from Ferozepur will actively participate in the hunger strike and protest demonstrations scheduled to be held in Chandigarh. He emphasized that the legal fraternity remains united in its demand for the complete withdrawal of the LADC Policy and will continue its peaceful democratic protests until their concerns are addressed.
The Joint Action Committee has called upon advocates across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh to maintain solidarity and strengthen the movement in support of the legal community’s demands.
