Chandigarh, September 16, 2026: The Punjab Government has constituted a seven-member coordination committee in accordance with directions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to deliberate and coordinate on the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026.
The committee includes former Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, Damdami Taksal chief Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, Sant Baba Sewa Singh of Rampur Khera, retired Justice Jaspal Singh, retired Justice Gurbir Singh, retired IPS officer and former Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) chairman Jatinder Singh Aulakh, and Law Officer Preet Inder Pal Singh.
According to the decision, the seven-member panel will maintain continuous coordination with the committee constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib on the matter.
The development comes amid ongoing discussions between the Punjab Government and Sri Akal Takht Sahib over the 2026 amendment to the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar law. Sri Akal Takht Sahib had earlier raised objections to several provisions of the legislation and constituted an expert panel to deliberate with the state government.
The Punjab Government had subsequently sought legal opinion on the suggestions made by Sri Akal Takht Sahib regarding amendments to the legislation.
The Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026 was notified by the Punjab Government in April 2026.
