Ferozepur’s young farmer Manpreet Singh honoured with Sardar Ujagar Singh Dhaliwal Award
Ferozepur, September 18, 2026: Progressive young farmer Manpreet Singh, son of Mahinder Singh and resident of village Rahime Ke Uttar in Ferozepur district, has been honoured with the prestigious Sardar Ujagar Singh Dhaliwal Award by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, for his contribution to nursery raising, vegetable cultivation and crop diversification.
The award was presented to Manpreet Singh at the Kisan Mela by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian and senior officials of PAU.
Manpreet Singh has earned the recognition after overcoming several challenges in his professional journey. After working in private establishments and later facing difficulties in running a grocery store, he shifted to nursery production and vegetable cultivation. He established Gurjapp Kisan Nursery Farm 1313 in 2020-21 in the name of his nephew, building on the work he had initiated during 2014-15.
To strengthen his skills, Manpreet underwent training at the PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ferozepur, and has maintained regular contact with scientists of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
Moving beyond the traditional wheat-paddy cycle, he is now raising nurseries of PAU-recommended vegetable varieties and cultivating vegetables on four acres. With technical guidance, he has also adopted sprinkler irrigation.
Besides cultivating vegetables himself, Manpreet supplies chilli seedlings to around 100-150 farmers from different districts, thereby contributing to crop diversification. His nursery and farming activities also provide employment to labourers from neighbouring villages.
He attributes the success of his venture to the continued support of his family, including his father Mahinder Singh, mother Paramjit Kaur, brother Gurpreet Singh, who is serving in the Punjab Police, and wife Gagandeep Kaur.
Officials of Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) - Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, congratulated Manpreet Singh on the achievement and wished him further success. They said other young farmers of the district should draw inspiration from his example and come forward to adopt modern farming practices and crop diversification, thereby bringing further recognition to Ferozepur district.
