New Delhi,March 28,2019: Rebel Aam Aadmi Party Member Parliament Harinder Singh Khalsa joined BJP on Thursday. MP from Fatehgarh Sahib constituency joined BJP in the presence of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at New Delhi.
Khalsa, who was earlier a member of Shiromani Akali Dal was elected as MP Bathinda from 1996-98.His father Gopal Singh Khalsa was also SAD politician and had served as leader of opposition in Punjab legislative assembly in 1952.
Harinder Singh Khalsa was also a former IFS (Indian Foreign Service) officer who served in Bangkok, Norway and Jakarta. It was in June 1984 that Khalsa resigned from the post in protest against Operation Blue Star.
Later in 1990-91, he served as the Chairman of Punjab Human Rights Organization, an NGO that highlighted the excesses committed by the state government during the anti-insurgency operations. During 1991-03, he served as a secretary of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandak Committee.
It was in 2014, Harinder Singh joined the Aam Aadmi Party, and contested Lok Sabha elections from Fatehgarh Sahib. On 29 August 2015, he was suspended from AAP due to anti-party activities.
