DC appeals to shun stubble burning as it may worsen health conditions of Covid-19 patients
Ferozepur, October 1, 2020: Deputy Commissioner, Gurpal Singh Chahal, gearing up for eliminating stubble burning, appealed to the farmers not to resort to stubble burning practices as the smog from the fire can aggravate problems for Covid-19 patients who are already suffering from immune systems. He said, besides the essential elements in the soil are also destroyed.
The DC said in order to keep the environment clear and save the fertile soil, stubble should not be burned but mixed with the soil with the help of modern tools. He added that by not burning the crop residues, the spread of diseases among human beings and animals could be prevented.
He said, the Punjab Government was also providing subsidy for the purchase of agricultural machinery for the disposal of the crop. He said due to the smoke of the fire road accidents also take place which claimed many precious lives. He said the farmers could make straw bales by running balers instead of burning straw in the fields. He said that the adoption of this technology would not only pollute the environment but also increase the fertility of the land.
