PSPCL to purchase more power to meet increased demand: A Venu Prasad
Despite Power shortage, PSPCL managed to supply scheduled power to agricultural consumers, says Prasad
Patiala, July 8, 2021:
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) A Venu Prasad said that Punjab was witnessing all time high demand in the ongoing paddy season due to delayed monsoon arrival. The power availability was also on the lower side this season due to low reservoir levels resulting in less hydro power.
CMD said that one unit of Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd. has been on forced outage due to turbine break down, another unit has developed a technical snag on July 7 and the third one was operating at half capacity due to some technical issue.
CMD disclosed that on Thursday, one unit of GHTP Lehra Mohabbat (210 MW) developed some temporary fault. The unit has already been revived. He also added that one unit of GGSSTP Ropar (210MW) was also not available on Thursday due to some technical fault, which was likely to be revived on Friday.
He said that the Mukerian Hydel Project generates around 80 MW during day time, however in peak hours its generation was raised to 170 MW in order to cater to the peak demand.
CMD further added that despite limited availability on account of above reasons, PSPCL had managed to provide scheduled power supply to agricultural consumers. “PSPCL is fully utilizing its import corridor to cater to the increased demand. PSPCL has procured about 1100 MW of power @ Rs. 5.46 per unit through power exchange. The unit outages are usual happenings in the power system and are well managed through demand side management and by procuring additional power to make up for generation loss,” said Venu Prasad.
CMD clarified that all such measures have already been taken by PSPCL and the prevailing situation was temporary and the power scenario shall shortly improve.
