PSPCL to purchase more power to meet increased demand: Venu Prasad
Despite Power shortage, PSPCL managed to supply scheduled power to agricultural consumers: A.Venu Prasad
Patiala, July 9, 2021: CMD Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) A.Venu Prasad said that Punjab said that power department is in the process of purchasing more power to meet the increased demand. He said that the state is witnessing all time high demand in the ongoing paddy season due to delayed monsoon arrival.
"The power availability is also on the lower side this season due to low reservoir levels resulting in less hydropower," A Venu Prasad added.
CMD said that one unit of Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd. Mansa has been on forced outage due to turbine break down, another unit has developed a technical snag on July 7 and the third one is operating at half capacity due to some technical issue.
CMD disclosed that today one unit of GHTP Lehra Mohabbat (210 MW) developed some temporary fault. The unit has already been revived.
"One unit of GGSSTP Ropar (210MW) is also not available today due to some technical fault, which is likely to be revived tomorrow. The Mukerian Hydel Project generates around 80 MW during the daytime, however, in peak hours its generation is raised to 170 MW to cater to the peak demand," he added.
CMD further added that despite limited availability on account of the above reasons, PSPCL has managed to provide a scheduled power supply to agricultural consumers. PSPCL is fully utilizing its import corridor to cater to the increased demand.
He said that PSPCL has procured about 1100 MW of power @ Rs. 5.46 per unit through power exchange.
"The unit outages are usual happenings in the power system and are well managed through demand-side management and by procuring additional power to make up for generation loss. All such measures are already been taken by PSPCL. The prevailing situation is temporary and the power scenario shall shortly improve," CMD clarified.
