Health Department hosts ARSH workshop at Govt School of Eminence at Mamdot
Ferozepur, January 29, 2025: The Health Department organized a block-level Adolescent Reproductive Sexual Health (ARSH) Workshop at Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School (School of Eminence), Mamdot, under the tutelage of Dr.Rajwinder Kaur Civil Surgeon. The workshop aimed to educate girls about physical and emotional changes during adolescence. Students and teachers actively participated in the session.
Medical Officer Dr. Rekha Bhatti provided insights into the adolescent age group (10-19 years), which constitutes nearly 20% of the country's population. She explained that hormonal changes during this phase lead to physical and emotional transformations. Addressing these changes as a natural process, she emphasized the importance of menstrual health awareness.
Dr. Bhatti highlighted that timely education on menstruation-related hygiene is crucial for overall well-being. She advised parents and teachers to be supportive and approachable, ensuring adolescents feel comfortable discussing their concerns. If needed, they should consult a nearby female medical officer.
Deputy Media Officer Neha Bhandari addressed the students, explaining that menstrual cycles vary for every individual. She encouraged the use of sanitary napkins, which are available through ASHA workers in every village or can be purchased from markets. She cautioned against washing or reusing sanitary napkins and stressed the importance of maintaining personal hygiene to prevent infections, which could lead to severe health complications if ignored.
During the workshop, Dr. Harpreet Kaur extensively answered students' health-related queries. School Principal Rubina Chopra thanked the Health Department for the initiative and urged students to follow the guidance shared to maintain a healthy and disease-free life.
The session also included demonstrations on proper handwashing techniques by District Mass Media Officer Sanjeev Sharma and discussions on balanced diets by Deputy Mass Media Officer Ankush Bhandari.
The workshop was made successful with the contributions of Dr. Harpreet Singh, staff nurse Ramandeep Kaur, Block Educator Aman Kamboj, Amarjeet Singh, Madam Sukhwinder Kaur, Neelam, Kulwinder Kaur, Parvinder Kaur, and other staff members.
