Punjab computer teachers set to storm Delhi over unfulfilled promises
Ferozepur, January 30, 2025: Punjab’s computer teachers, who have been fighting for their rights for the last 150 days, are now gearing up for a major protest in Delhi against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Any day before February 2, they plan to demonstrate in the constituency of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, exposing the government's failure to fulfill its promises.
Leaders of the Computer Teachers Hunger Strike Sangharsh Committee, Lakhwinder Singh and Jitinder Sodhi, stated that despite their prolonged hunger strike and protests in Punjab, the government has ignored their demands. They highlighted that computer teachers have not been given Sixth Pay Commission benefits, their Dearness Allowance (DA) remains frozen, and even medical reimbursement is unavailable, pushing many into financial and health crises. Over 100 teachers have died in recent years, yet their families have received no assistance.
Before the 2017 Punjab elections, AAP had promised to include computer teachers in the education department, a commitment reiterated by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains in 2022, but nothing materialized.
Frustrated teachers are now preparing for a nationwide movement. District-wise lists have been finalized, and as soon as they receive clearance from Delhi authorities, thousands will march to the capital to intensify their struggle. They vow not to back down until their demands are met.
