Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary stated that a plastic waste segregation plant will be established at Madanherri village in Kharar block to cater to Mohali villages, marking the first such initiative in rural areas.
During a review meeting on rural development works, ADC Sonam Chaudhary emphasized that solid and rural waste management has become a significant issue in rural areas
The administration has been exploring various methods to dispose of solid and wet waste with the assistance of the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation.
The plastic waste plant, being set up by the Water Supply and Sanitation Department at Madanherri, will enable the compression of plastic material into bales for sale in the open market.
Chaudhary added that 78 villages will receive the ODF Plus tag under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) by March end, provided dry and wet waste issues are resolved effectively, making them model villages.
Additional Deputy Commissioner instructed Block Development and Panchayat Officers of Mohali and Derabassi blocks to complete the construction and finishing of rural libraries in their respective blocks by mid-February, ensuring they become functional by February end. Both blocks have six libraries each.
Chaudhary stressed the need to expedite the construction of houses under the Prime Minister Awas Yojna (Gramin), ensuring that beneficiaries are properly guided to receive remaining installments upon completing the first/second phase.
Progress on the construction of 26 Anganwadi Centre Buildings and playgrounds was assessed, and officials were instructed to complete the work on time.
BDPOs were also asked to furnish Utilisation Certificates for completed works under various finance commissions and MP local area development funds without delay.
Sub Divisional Magistrates Damandeep Kaur from Mohali and Amit Gupta from Derabassi, Deputy CEO Zila Parishad Ranjit Singh, BDPO Mohali Dhanwant Singh Randhawa, and BDPO Derabassi Gurpreet Singh Mangat attended the meeting. (APS)
