Punjab moves forward with 10 major railway projects, no progress mimimal progress in 3 projects
Ferozepr, February 3, 2025: Punjab is witnessing a significant boost in its railway infrastructure with 10 key railway projects currently underway across the state. These projects aim to enhance connectivity, improve freight movement, and modernize the rail network.
Key Projects and progress updates are - Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri (63 km) – ₹6,753 crore investment, 47% completed, Nangal Dam-Talwara (123 km) – ₹2,018 crore investment, 89% completed, Rajpura-Bhatinda (173 km) – ₹2,459 crore investment, 100% completed, Ferozepur-Patti (26 km) – ₹300 crore investment, yet to begin, Ludhiana-Kila Raipur (19 km) – ₹238 crore investment, 40% completed, Ludhiana-Mullanpur (21 km) – ₹235 crore investment, 92% completed, Qadian-Beas (40 km) – ₹842 crore investment, 1% completed, Yamuna Nagar-Chandigarh (91 km) – ₹901 crore investment, yet to begin, Rajpura-Mohali (24 km) – ₹406 crore investment, yet to begin, and Doubling of Firozpur-Bathinda and Jakhal-Hisar (169 km) – ₹1,688 crore investment, yet to begin.
Apart from this, a major railway doubling project between Churu-Sadulpur and Luni-Samdari-Bhildi is being undertaken at a cost of ₹3,554 crore.
Despite some projects nearing completion, others remain in the early stages. The Rajpura-Bathinda railway line is now fully completed, while the Ludhiana-Mullanpur and Nangal Dam-Talwara projects are close to finishing. However, critical projects such as Ferozepur-Patti, Rajpura-Mohali, and Qadian-Beas have seen minimal progress so far.
The development of these railway projects is expected to boost regional connectivity, facilitate economic growth, and improve passenger and freight services across Punjab.
