Chandigarh, February 18, 2025: Amid the outrage over Sikh deportees from the US being denied turban, Senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala expressed disappointment and anger over the situation.
"I am sad and angry too. Anger because the turban of Sikh brothers, which is a symbol of their honor and self-respect, has been insulted. Anger because America once again sent back Indians ruthlessly and humiliatingly but the Modi government which boasts a lot is silent. It is sad because the aspirations of the Indians who have returned are in chains and their dreams are in shackles. Today there is a need to raise our voice for these people standing on the blurred paths of an unknown future," posted Ranjdeep Surjewala on X.
Notably, one of the Sikh deportees from the United States shared with the media that the US Army threw his turban (dastar) in the dustbin after forcing him to take it out.He was among the 112 Indian deportees from US who landed in Amritsar in the third batch.
