Punjab-Haryana Road Reopens at Shambhu as Barricades Removed,Traffic likely to be fully resumed by Friday

Shambhu, March 21, 2025 – The Punjab-Haryana road at Shambhu was reopened today after security forces cleared the barricades that had blocked the route for over a year but Traffic likely to be fully resumed by Friday after cleaning and recarpeting the road.
Punjab Police dismantled barricades on their side, allowing traffic movement, while Haryana Police also began removing concrete barricades from their end on the other side of the highway towards Punjab.
Heavy machinery, including JCBs and bulldozers, was deployed to clear the Shambhu-Ambala highway, which had remained shut since February 2023 due to farmer protests. The fortifications, including concrete blocks, iron nails, and barbed wire, had been set up by Haryana authorities to prevent farmers from marching towards Delhi during the Delhi Chalo agitation.
Officials confirmed that normal traffic movement will be gradually restored, marking a significant development in the aftermath of prolonged road closures. Security personnel i large numbers remain deployed in the area to ensure a smooth transition.
