Haryana forms high-level committee to review crop price policy and cultivation costs

Chandigarh, March 31, 2025: The Haryana Government has constituted a high-level committee under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, to review the existing price policy and assess the cost of cultivation for major Kharif and Rabi crops in the state.The initiative aims to ensure fair pricing for farmers and strengthen the agricultural economy.
A spokesperson from the Haryana Kisan Kalyan Pradhikaran emphasized the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and sustainable agricultural practices.
The committee’s primary role will be to analyze cultivation costs, propose policy improvements, and ensure balanced pricing that benefits both farmers and consumers while aligning with the state’s economic priorities.
The committee will convene twice a year to evaluate prevailing price policies, identify key challenges, and recommend actionable strategies for more effective policymaking.
It has been formed in response to the rising production costs and the need for a farmer-friendly pricing framework that promotes crop diversification and ensures fair remuneration.
Key Objectives of the Committee:
- Assess the cost of cultivation for Haryana’s major crops, considering input costs, labor, irrigation, and other expenses.
- Review and suggest improvements to the existing price policy to ensure remunerative prices for farmers.
- Provide strategic recommendations to enhance the price policy’s effectiveness.
- Address economic challenges faced by farmers while promoting agricultural growth.
Committee Composition:
The committee will include senior officials from the Agriculture Department, experts from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar, and representatives from the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department. The CEO of Haryana Kisan Kalyan Pradhikaran will serve as the Member Secretary.
The spokesperson described this move as a major step toward modernizing Haryana’s agricultural policies, ensuring that they remain adaptable to farmers' evolving needs.
