Babushahi Bureau
Chandigarh, June 29, 2025 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the Southwest Monsoon has covered the entire country as of June 29, nine days ahead of the normal date of July 8. The IMD has issued a special weather bulletin warning of continued light to moderate rainfall across many to most places, along with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh from June 29 to July 1.
According to the bulletin, a significant weather system, including an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Haryana and its neighborhood extending up to 1.5 km above sea level, is contributing to the active monsoon spell.
The department has predicted very heavy rain (more than 12 cm) over parts of northern, eastern Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh, with potential impact in districts like Yamuna Nagar, Ambala, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Patiala, Sangrur, and Rupnagar.
In light of the expected heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 29 to 30, authorities have highlighted several expected impacts, including:
-
Damage to harvested crops lying in open fields
-
Waterlogging in low-lying areas
-
Traffic disruptions, rise in river water levels, and disruption of municipal services

-

-
