Land Pooling Policy is Daylight Robbery of Farmers' Land –Jakhar & Chugh
BJP Delegation Meets Governor, Demands Cancellation of Land Pooling Policy
The government Has Not Yet Framed Rules for Land Pooling Policy 2025-Alleged BJP Leaders
Chandigarh, July 4, 2025:
A delegation led by Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar and National General Secretary Tarun Chugh met Punjab Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria today. They demanded the withdrawal of the notification issued by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to forcibly acquire farmers' land under the Land Pooling Policy.
Speaking to reporters afterward, State President Sunil Jakhar said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stands firmly with farmers and will not allow even an inch of land to be acquired without their consent.
Jakhar stated that the Punjab government's Land Pooling Policy 2025 has not yet framed any rules or regulations, making it unclear how severe the next phase of this "loot" will be. He warned that the BJP would also approach the courts against this unconstitutional land grab.
Tarun Chugh said that Kejriwal has hijacked Punjab's democratically elected government and is running the Mann government like a puppet to benefit land mafias and his close associates. He stated that this Land Pooling Bill is not only unconstitutional but also lacks a transparent roadmap, making it clear that it is a pre-planned conspiracy aimed at snatching the fertile land of Punjab's innocent farmers. At Kejriwal's behest, the Punjab Chief Minister is about to seize 40,000 acres of land from farmers, but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not let this happen.
The BJP state president further said that while the issued land notifications may show the farmer's name on paper, in reality, the farmer cannot sell the land or even take loans against it during financial hardships.
Calling the AAP government's move a "daylight robbery of farmers' rights," Jakhar asserted that the Land Pooling Policy is entirely unconstitutional and has been introduced only to seize land from farmers and distribute it among the ruling party's favorites. He pointed out that under the 2013 Land Acquisition Act, consent from 80% of farmers is mandatory, and land can only be acquired for roads and national security purposes. However, the Punjab government is acquiring thousands of acres illegally, which is a blatant injustice to farmers.
Jakhar revealed that today’s delegation included representatives from 35 villages, who submitted panchayat resolutions from 22 villages and affidavits from 625 farmers to the Governor. He added that even land allotted to families of martyred soldiers is now being snatched away by the government.
Jakhar highlighted that in the last 60 years, urbanization occurred on only 6,000 acres around Ludhiana, but now the government is suddenly acquiring six times more land without any logical justification. He accused the Chief Minister of acting on Delhi's orders to seize farmers' land and hand it over to the land mafia. He also criticized the Punjab Congress for remaining silent on this crucial issue, accusing them of surrendering before the ruling party.
The delegation included Dr. Subhash Sharma (State Vice President), Surjit Jyani (Former Minister), Advocate Bikram Singh Sidhu (State Executive Member), Gurdev Sharma Devi (Treasurer, BJP Punjab), Rajneesh Dhiman, Harish Tandon, Gurinder Sandhu, and Vineet Joshi (State Media Head, BJP Punjab), along with farmers affected by land pooling from Ludhiana district.
