Justice Long Overdue: 5,178 Teachers await pending dues, DTF appeals to CM for relief
Ferozepur, July 16, 2025: The Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF), Punjab, submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Ferozepur, addressed to the Chief Minister, demanding the immediate release of pending salary arrears of 5,178 teachers for their probation period.
Led by District Secretary Amit Kumar and Finance Secretary Gurvinder Singh Khosa, the union highlighted that despite clear orders issued by the Director of School Education (Secondary) on February 26, 2025, instructing the release of arrears as per the full salary scale during the probation period, the teachers (non-petitioners) are still awaiting payment.
DTF leaders pointed out that the Education Department had already acknowledged this matter in its report submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court and had committed to generalizing the decision. Furthermore, during meetings with the Education Secretary and the Cabinet Sub-Committee in June 2025, assurances were given to resolve this issue uniformly across the cadre.
The union demanded that clarification letters be issued immediately so that all 5,178 teachers receive their rightful dues without any distinction between petitioners and non-petitioners. They also called for proper salary fixation for Art and Craft teachers appointed under the same recruitment, in accordance with recruitment rules and regularization orders.
DTF warned that if the demands are not met within a week, teachers will escalate their protest with a mass deputation at the Director of Education (Secondary) office on August 5, and a parallel statewide protest on Teachers’ Day, September 5.
Other leaders present included Narinder Singh Jammu, Heera Singh Toot, Varinderpal Singh Khalsa, Sudhir Kumar, Amrik Shreeh Wala Brar, and Nirvair Singh.
