Jalandhar (Punjab), July 27, 2025: In a significant development for daily commuters across Punjab, the Contract Workers’ Union of Roadways, PUNBUS, and PRTC has issued a warning that all government bus services will come to a halt on July 29 if their demands are not addressed by July 28.
The announcement came during a press conference held by union leaders Chanan Singh (Depot-1) and Satpal Singh (Depot-2), who accused the Punjab Government of stalling negotiations despite being in power for over three years.
The union leaders highlighted that multiple rounds of meetings have taken place with state authorities, including the Transport Minister and Finance Minister, yet no concrete decisions have been implemented.
“The government keeps offering verbal assurances instead of taking real action. This delaying tactic is creating deep resentment among the workers,” said Chanan Singh.
The union had earlier announced a three-day strike and had gone ahead with a one-day bus strike on July 9, which prompted a meeting with state ministers.
During that meeting, government representatives had promised to resolve key demands by July 16 and address all pending issues by July 28. As a result, the union had temporarily deferred further strike action.
However, union leaders claim that no meeting was held on July 16 as promised, and the discussion held on July 21 yielded no results. They allege that the government is deliberately avoiding resolution talks, fueling unrest among the workforce.
Prominent union leaders including Ranjit Singh, Harjinder Singh, Baba Jaswant Singh, Jasbir Singh, Sukhdev Singh Rikki, Malkit Singh, and Sukhwinder Singh, representing various depots, were present at the press briefing and unanimously supported the call for the strike.
