Chandigarh, July 27, 2025: Member of Parliament from Bathinda, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, has strongly condemned the denial of entry to a Sikh candidate, Gurpreet Kaur from Tarn Taran Sahib, who was reportedly barred from appearing for the Rajasthan Judicial Services Examination at Poornima University, Jaipur, for wearing her Sikh articles of faith (kakaars).
Calling the incident “deeply unfortunate and discriminatory,” Badal expressed concern over the repeated targeting of Sikh students across India for adhering to their religious identity.
“It is extremely unfortunate and shameful that our Gursikh daughter, Gurpreet Kaur, was stopped from appearing in a judicial examination simply because she wore her kakaars. This is not the first time such an incident has taken place in our own country,” said Badal in a statement.
She demanded that the Rajasthan Government take strict action against the officials responsible for preventing Gurpreet from sitting for the exam and seek an explanation from them.
“The officials who denied this candidate her right to appear for the exam must be held accountable. I urge the Rajasthan Government to initiate strict disciplinary action immediately,” she added.
Badal also pledged to raise this issue in the Parliament of India, stressing that a permanent solution must be found to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
“I will be raising this issue in Parliament to ensure that no Sikh student has to face such discrimination again. We must work toward a concrete and respectful resolution that protects the constitutional and religious rights of Sikh children,” she said.
