U-Turn in Ferozepur Firing Case: Immigration Centre owner admits accidental shot, police gear up for legal action
Ferozepur, August 8, 2025: In a dramatic twist to the recent shooting incident involving immigration centre owner and social worker Rahul Kakkar, it has now emerged that the gunshot injury he sustained was not the result of a targeted attack but an accidental self-inflicted wound.
Initially reported as a daylight attack by unidentified bike-borne assailants on Baghi Road, Kakkar has now confessed to police that the incident occurred unintentionally while he was handling his pistol. He admitted that while returning home on his scooter after a two-day religious pilgrimage, extreme exhaustion and mental stress led him to stop on Baghi Road. While attempting to take out his licensed pistol, it accidentally discharged, hitting him in the left shoulder.
Following the incident, he had gone to his office, from where his wife rushed him to a private hospital. During treatment, out of panic and confusion, he gave an incorrect statement to doctors and police, claiming it was a targeted shooting.
Now, six days later, Kakkar has submitted a written clarification to the police, retracting his earlier statement and admitting the truth. He expressed regret for unintentionally misleading the authorities and the public.
SSP Ferozepur Bhupinder Singh Sidhu confirmed the development and stated that legal action may be initiated against Kakkar for providing false information and misleading law enforcement. "He not only misled the police but also the media and the public," the SSP said, indicating possible criminal proceedings.
This U-turn has not only changed the direction of the investigation but also landed Rahul Kakkar in deeper legal and social trouble.
