Sangrur, August 11, 2025 – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday inaugurated two major educational institutions in Sangrur, aimed at boosting education and healthcare infrastructure in the region.
He dedicated the Jathedar Kartar Singh Darvesh Senior Secondary School, upgraded to a School of Eminence at a cost of ₹3.40 crore, featuring modern classrooms, laboratories, an auditorium, workshops, a mid-day meal kitchen, and other upgraded facilities. The Chief Minister said the transformation will benefit both students and teachers, enabling them to excel globally.
Mann also inaugurated the Government Nursing Training School, built at a cost of ₹7.81 crore. The institute offers a three-year General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course and includes a hostel, smart classrooms, modern laboratories, a library, and a school bus service. He noted that the facility will particularly help rural students who previously had to travel long distances for nursing education.
In addition, the Chief Minister flagged off 12 mobile cancer screening buses in collaboration with World Cancer Care. These buses will conduct door-to-door screenings in villages and towns, offering free diagnostic tests such as mammography, pap smears, PSA tests, oral cancer screenings, bone density checks, and blood tests.
Calling it a “historic step” in the fight against cancer, Mann said the initiative will make early detection and treatment accessible, especially for residents of the Malwa region, which has been severely affected by the disease.
