Crackdown on drug smuggling, two held with over 4 kg heroin
Ferozepur, January 15, 2026: In a major action against drug trafficking, Ferozepur police have arrested an accused under the NDPS Act and recovered 4 kg 13 grams of heroin during a special operation conducted under the ongoing anti-drug campaign.
Bhupinder Singh, SSP, said the operation was carried out under the supervision of senior officers as part of the drive launched to curb the drug menace in the district. The accused has been identified as Polas and Jaspreet Singh alias Jassa of village Bukhan Khannunder Kulgarhi Police Station.
He stated that on January 14, based on specific intelligence inputs, a police team led by SHO Police Station Mamdot set up a naka (check-point). During checking, the accused were intercepted and upon search, 4 kg 13 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession and a motorcycle without a number. A case under Sections 21 and 61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him.
SSP further revealed that the accused Polas is a habitual offender and has been previously booked in three criminal cases, including cases under the Arms Act and NDPS Act, while there is no criminal record against Jaspret Singh. Investigations are underway to trace the backward and forward linkages of the drug network and to identify other persons involved in the smuggling racket.
