As a major initiative by the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, for the complete eradication of drugs in Punjab, a 'foot march against drugs' will be taken out in Fazilka district on 11th and 12th February.
This information was shared by Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu during a special meeting with the officers of all the departments to review the arrangements being completed by various departments regarding the advance preparations for the foot march.
The Deputy Commissioner gave necessary directions for completing the preparations for the Governor's visit to Fazilka district and the foot march on time. During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said that on February 11, 2026, the Governor of Punjab will visit the Jatwali Rehabilitation Center of Fazilka.
After this, he will lead a walking march from Sanjeev Cinema Fazilka to Ghanta Ghar Fazilka. Apart from this, the Governor of Punjab will also pay homage at the Asaf Wala Shaheedi Smarak.
On this occasion, he will hold a meeting with the Village Security Committees (VDCs) of the border district. During the second day of his visit to Fazilka district, the Governor of Punjab will lead a walking march against drugs from Municipal Corporation Office Abohar to DAV College Abohar on February 12, 2026.
During this, the Governor of Punjab will also give his message to the people. A large number of students, members of youth clubs, volunteers and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) etc. will participate in this walking march and call for giving up drugs and uniting for the eradication of drugs.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the officers of the concerned departments to ensure security arrangements, traffic control, cleanliness, health facilities, medical teams and necessary arrangements during the event to make this awareness walk a success. He directed all the departments to work in coordination with each other and make this awareness walk a success.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Assistant Commissioner Amandeep Singh Mavi and officers of other departments were present in the meeting.
