Misl Satluj seeks CBI probe into Gurdaspur encounter, writes to Amit Shah
Babushahi Bureau
Mohali (Punjab), February 27, 2026: Misl Satluj President Ajay Pal Singh Brar has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking a time-bound and impartial inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged police encounter in Gurdaspur.
In the detailed letter sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Brar raised concerns over the death of a Sikh youth during the encounter, stating that the incident has triggered apprehension and insecurity among sections of the public in Punjab.
He emphasized that only an independent central agency probe can establish the full facts, examine the police’s claims, and determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
Brar also referred to Punjab’s troubled past between 1980 and 1995, a period marked by allegations of fake encounters and human rights violations.
He recalled that cases highlighted by human rights activist Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra had once shaken the nation, and subsequent investigations had led to convictions of police officials in certain instances.
In his statement, Brar warned that failure to ensure transparency in such sensitive matters could erode public trust in law enforcement and the administration. He urged the central government to intervene promptly and approve a CBI inquiry to ensure accountability and restore confidence.
