Chandigarh, March 6, 2026: Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday alleged a serious security lapse in the Assembly, claiming that unauthorized individuals entered the premises with equipment without proper passes or procedures.
Bajwa said the incident raises serious concerns about the safety and security of the state’s highest democratic institution. “Punjab was first made unsafe for the common man, and now even the temple of democracy, the Vidhan Sabha, is not secure,” he said while criticizing the state government.
According to the Congress leader, allowing unknown people with unauthorized equipment inside the Assembly without passes represents a shocking breach of security. He alleged that the move reflects the desperation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab to divert attention from what he described as its failure on maintaining law and order in the state.
“If the Assembly itself is compromised, what safety can ordinary Punjabis expect?” Bajwa questioned.
He further stated that a resolution was passed during a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), drawing the attention of the Speaker and the Governor to the alleged lapse. The resolution demanded that no outsider be allowed inside the Punjab Legislative Assembly premises without proper passes and adherence to established security protocols.
“We have specifically raised the issue that outsiders should not be allowed to enter the entire Vidhan Sabha premises without passes. There has clearly been a security lapse and we want a thorough investigation into this matter,” Bajwa added.
The opposition has demanded a probe into the incident and stricter security measures within the Assembly complex to prevent such occurrences in the future.
