Punjab CM Mann celebrates Eid in Malerkotla, announces Rs 375 crore development boost

Malerkotla (Punjab), March 21, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday joined Eid prayers at the Eidgah in Malerkotla and announced a ₹375 crore development package focused on healthcare and education for the historic town.
Extending Eid greetings, the Chief Minister emphasised the spirit of brotherhood and unity, stating that festivals like Eid reflect harmony and collective well-being.
He also asserted that Punjab will not allow any force to disturb communal harmony under any circumstances.

Highlighting key projects, Mann announced the establishment of a medical college in Malerkotla at an estimated cost of ₹563 crore, with 100 MBBS seats.
He said around 25 acres of defence land has been transferred for the project. In addition, a 150-bed ESI hospital is being constructed, along with plans for a nursing college and a 200-bed hospital as part of the medical infrastructure expansion.
The Chief Minister also shared updates on education initiatives, noting that a girls’ school in the town has been upgraded into a five-storey building and is likely to be inaugurated soon, providing improved facilities for students.
Mann urged residents to enrol in the state’s ₹10 lakh cashless healthcare scheme, aimed at providing free treatment in empanelled government and private hospitals.

He reiterated that the state government is committed to strengthening healthcare and education while fulfilling its promises to the people.
Reaffirming Punjab’s legacy of unity, the Chief Minister said the state’s land has always nurtured peace and brotherhood, adding that “the seed of hatred will never grow here.” He assured that the government remains fully committed to preserving communal harmony and social cohesion across the state.
