Chandigarh, April 8, 2026 – Senior BJP leader and Minister of State (MoS) Ravneet Singh Bittu has raised serious concerns over widespread crop damage in Punjab due to adverse weather, criticizing the state government for not implementing the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
In a video statement, Bittu said farmers have been left without crucial financial protection during a time of crisis due to the absence of the crop insurance scheme.
“Look at the kind of damage we are witnessing in Punjab. The Malwa region, in particular, has been severely affected by heavy rainfall, with several areas witnessing intense downpours. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ji, if crop insurance had been implemented for all crops, farmers would not have had to worry,” he said.
Bittu stressed that the implementation of the scheme could have ensured compensation for farmers facing heavy losses. He urged the state government to take immediate steps to safeguard farmers’ interests and provide timely relief.
