Chandigarh, May 11, 2026: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted major relief to the makers of the controversial documentary “Lawrence of Punjbab” by allowing its release on Zee5, but with a significant condition attached.
The court directed the filmmakers to change the title of the documentary before its release. It specifically barred the use of the words “Lawrence” and “Bishnoi” in the new title. The producers have also been instructed to submit a list of alternative titles before the court and obtain approval prior to release.
During the hearing, the Punjab Government had requested the removal of the word “Punjab” from the documentary’s title. However, the High Court rejected this plea.
The ruling is being seen as a balanced approach by the court, permitting the documentary’s release while ensuring that the title does not directly reference controversial names linked to criminal activities.
