Amritsar (Punjab), May 11, 2026: Guru Nanak Dev University has earned a major global distinction by securing the 78th position worldwide in the “University Brand and Reputation” category of the prestigious World University Rankings for Innovation 2026.
The achievement places GNDU among the top 100 universities globally in innovation-driven reputation rankings and marks a significant milestone for Indian higher education. The university is also among a limited number of Indian public institutions to receive recognition in this category.

The rankings were officially announced on May 7 under the aegis of the Institute for Policy & Strategy on National Competitiveness in collaboration with WURI and several international academic organisations.
Reacting to the achievement, Vice-Chancellor Karamjeet Singh said the honour reflects the collective dedication and hard work of the university’s faculty members, students, alumni, officers, employees and stakeholders.
He stated that building a strong international academic reputation today requires continuous innovation, quality research, academic excellence, social commitment and global collaborations. According to him, GNDU has consistently focused on all these areas to strengthen its global standing.
The Vice-Chancellor thanked the university community, including alumni across the world, academic and administrative staff, researchers, students, media professionals and well-wishers for their contribution towards bringing international recognition to the institution.
Prof. Singh also specially acknowledged the efforts of Jatinder Kaur and her team for their role in securing the prestigious ranking through dedicated planning and institutional quality initiatives.
He added that the latest recognition would further inspire the university to work with greater commitment towards academic excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship, skill development and nation-building in line with the vision of India’s National Education Policy.
