Gurugram (Haryana), May 18, 2026: An emotional scene unfolded inside a Gurugram courtroom on Monday as Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora, arrested in an alleged money laundering case, broke down after meeting his family members before being sent to judicial custody till June 1.
Arora was produced before a special court by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after completion of his custodial remand. Following the hearing, the court ordered that the minister be sent to 14-day judicial custody, with the next hearing scheduled for June 1.
However, it was the emotional interaction between Arora and his family inside the courtroom that drew attention during the proceedings.
Witnesses present in court said the minister appeared visibly exhausted, with a grown beard and a pale face after several days in custody. As soon as he saw his family members, especially his daughter, Arora reportedly became emotional and hugged her tightly with teary eyes in a deeply moving moment.
Family members were also seen struggling to control their emotions during the brief interaction inside the courtroom.
The Punjab minister, who belongs to the Aam Aadmi Party government, was arrested by the ED on May 9 from his official residence in Chandigarh after prolonged questioning in connection with the case.
Following his arrest, he was initially sent to seven days of ED custody, which was later extended by another two days for further interrogation.
Meanwhile, Arora has challenged his arrest and remand before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where the matter is currently under hearing. The ED is expected to submit its response before the High Court in the coming proceedings.
The agency is investigating the matter under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
