Chandigarh, May 26, 2026: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, along with his wife Amrita Warring, arrived at a polling station in a bullock cart to cast their votes in the Municipal Corporation elections, turning the act into a symbolic protest against rising fuel prices.
The couple’s unusual mode of transport drew attention at the polling booth, with supporters and onlookers witnessing what the Congress leader described as a political statement against inflation and increasing fuel costs.
Explaining the gesture, Raja Warring said the bullock cart ride was meant to highlight the burden of fuel price hikes on ordinary citizens.
“Today, we are going on a bullock cart to vote in symbolic protest against the continuous fuel price hike by the Modi Government,” he said.
“We demand an immediate rollback of the nearly ₹7 increase in petrol and diesel prices. When crude oil prices were low, the government never passed the benefit to the common people. Today, crude oil prices are still lower than what they were in 2014, yet fuel prices keep rising.”
He further added that even recent softening in global crude oil prices had not translated into relief for consumers.
“Even this week, global crude prices came down — but Modi Ji is still increasing petrol and diesel prices,” he said.
Highlighting the broader economic impact, he added, “The people of India are suffering from inflation, rising transport costs, and expensive daily essentials. This anti-people loot must stop.”
The Municipal Corporation elections are being held across several urban local bodies in Punjab, with major political parties actively contesting the polls.
