Samana (Punjab), May 26, 2026: Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer, president of the Youth Akali Dal and Ghanour constituency in-charge, on Tuesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party of misusing the Punjab Police to influence the Samana Municipal Council elections and intimidate voters.
Jhinjer alleged that the Punjab Government used the police as a political tool to suppress opposition voices while allowing AAP workers to operate freely during polling.
He claimed that a heavy police force was deployed outside the Shiromani Akali Dal office in Samana, party workers were detained, and the office was forcibly vacated, whereas no action was taken against AAP supporters present at the spot.
“The Punjab Police, which should act as a neutral protector of the electoral process, is functioning like the enforcement wing of AAP and selectively targeting the opposition during polling,” Jhinjer alleged.
He further stated that the developments in Samana reflected a direct attack on democratic values and accused the administration of deliberately favouring the ruling party.
The situation reportedly turned more tense after allegations of a police lathi-charge on voters who had arrived to cast their ballots, drawing sharp criticism from the Akali Dal leadership.
Jhinjer said the action against opposition workers and voters on polling day clearly showed an attempt by the AAP government to suppress democratic dissent through pressure and intimidation.
