Delhi/ Chandigarh, July 2, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Punjab in August, during which he is expected to inaugurate a major railway project and dedicate several other development initiatives to the state.
The announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, who said the Prime Minister's visit is planned for August. He, however, clarified that the exact date has not yet been finalized.
According to Bittu, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a key railway project and is also expected to unveil or dedicate several other infrastructure and development projects aimed at boosting Punjab's growth.
The proposed visit assumes political significance as it will be Prime Minister Modi's first visit to Punjab after the appointment of Kewal Singh Dhillon as President of the Punjab BJP. Political observers are likely to view the visit as an important step in the BJP's preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with the party seeking to strengthen its organisational base and expand its outreach in the state.
The visit is also expected to provide an opportunity for the BJP leadership to showcase the Centre's development initiatives in Punjab and energise the party cadre ahead of the Assembly polls.
The detailed programme and official itinerary of the Prime Minister's visit are expected to be announced once the schedule is finalized.
