Punjab Govt Withdraws Krishan Kumar's Home Charge, Assigns It to Gurkirat Kirpal Singh

Chandigarh, July 2, 2026: The Punjab Government has assigned the charge of the Home Affairs Department to senior IAS officer Gurkirat Kirpal Singh during the leave period of Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Alok Shekhar.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel (IAS Branch) on July 1, 2026, Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, IAS, in addition to his existing responsibilities, will function as Administrative Secretary, Department of Home Affairs and also continue as the Nodal Officer for implementation of the three new criminal laws in Punjab during the period July 18 to August 9, 2026, when Alok Shekhar will be on leave.
The government has also assigned Abhinav Trikha, IAS, the additional charge of Administrative Secretary, Finance Department during the leave period of Alok Shekhar.
The order further states that the earlier notification issued by the Department on June 25, 2026 (issued vide endorsement dated June 26, 2026) regarding the additional charges given to Krishan Kumar has been withdrawn and replaced with the fresh orders.
