Amid the ongoing internal power struggle and factionalism within the Punjab Congress, a significant political show of strength unfolded in Rupnagar (Ropar) on Monday evening.
Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel and Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring visited the residence of former Punjab Assembly Speaker and senior Congress leader Rana K.P. Singh, where they attended a dinner meeting. Several other prominent Congress leaders were also present on the occasion. However, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and the senior leaders backing him were conspicuously absent.
According to information available with Babushahi, the gathering assumes political significance in the wake of recent developments, with several senior Punjab Congress leaders openly raising their voice against the leadership of Raja Warring and conveying their concerns to the party high command in New Delhi.
While the dissident camp has been demanding a change in the state leadership, the presence of Bhupesh Baghel alongside Raja Warring and his supporters at Rana K.P. Singh's residence is being viewed as a strong political message to the rival faction and a clear display of support for the current state leadership.
Political Discussions Over Dinner
Rana K.P. Singh warmly welcomed Bhupesh Baghel, Raja Warring and the other Congress leaders. During the dinner meeting, detailed discussions were held on Punjab's current political situation, the party's strategy for the upcoming elections, and issues relating to indiscipline within the organization.
Sources said Bhupesh Baghel conveyed a clear message that the Congress high command would not tolerate factionalism within the party and that all leaders must work together in a united manner.
Political observers, however, believe that although the event has been described as a routine dinner and organizational meeting, it effectively served as a major show of strength in the midst of the ongoing internal battle within the Punjab Congress.
