Deceased PRTC driver's family gets ₹58 Lakh relief under Employee Welfare Scheme
Ferozepur, July 14, 2026: In a significant financial relief for the bereaved family of a Punjab Roadways driver, the family of late Jaswinder Singh (PT-236), who lost his life in a road accident on December 23, 2025, was presented with a cheque of ₹58 lakh under an employee insurance and welfare scheme.
According to officials, following the driver's death, the employees' union had strongly pursued the matter with the department to ensure adequate financial security for the family. Acting on the union's demand, the department had facilitated the opening of salary accounts of employees with Punjab & Sind Bank, enabling them to avail themselves of enhanced insurance and welfare benefits.
As part of the settlement, the bank released ₹40 lakh as an accident insurance claim and an additional ₹18 lakh towards the education expenses of the deceased driver's children, taking the total financial assistance to ₹58 lakh.
The cheque was handed over to the family in the presence of Punjab Roadways Employees' Union Punjab President Resham Singh Gill, General Manager Amit Kumar Arora, Traffic Manager Nirdosh Kumar, Ferozepur Depot President Jatinder Singh, and Depot Secretary Mukhpal Singh, along with other officials and union representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, union representatives said the financial assistance would provide much-needed support to the family during a difficult time. They also described the settlement as an example of how employee welfare measures and insurance coverage can offer meaningful security to the families of employees in the event of unforeseen tragedies.
The union appreciated both the department and Punjab & Sind Bank for ensuring the timely settlement of the insurance claim and extending educational support for the children of the deceased employee.
