16 PSPCL Unions call off strike after reaching agreement with Punjab Govt

Chandigarh, July 28, 2026: Public services across Punjab returned to normal on Tuesday after 16 unions of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and staff of Aam Aadmi Clinics (AACs) called off their strikes following successful negotiations with the Punjab Government.
Announcing the development, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who heads the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Employee Issues, said the breakthrough came after marathon discussions with employee unions over the past two days.
Cheema said all 16 power sector unions agreed to resume work after the government addressed several of their demands.
To examine pending financial issues, the government has constituted a Financial Committee, which has been asked to submit its report by August 15.
“The power sector strike has ended, and normal operations have resumed,” the Finance Minister said.
Cheema also announced that employees of Aam Aadmi Clinics have withdrawn their proposed strike after the government accepted their key demand of recognising their previous service experience during recruitment to regular posts. He added that other administrative demands raised by the staff are under active consideration.
The Minister further said that discussions with sanitation workers and sewerage board employees had also yielded positive results, with several unions ending their protests after talks with the government.
In another major announcement, Cheema said the Punjab Government has sent an ordinance to the Governor to facilitate the transition of eligible outsourced employees to contractual roles. The move, he said, is aimed at improving job security and service conditions for thousands of workers across the state.
The Finance Minister reiterated that the Bhagwant Mann-led government remains committed to resolving employee grievances through dialogue while ensuring uninterrupted power, healthcare and other essential public services across Punjab.
