70th Punjab School Games: Zone-Level Kho-Kho Tournament Begins with Enthusiasm in Ferozepur
Sports instil discipline, teamwork and leadership among students: Dr Satinder Singh
Ferozepur, August 7, 2026: The zone-level Kho-Kho competitions under the 70th Punjab School Games commenced with great enthusiasm at Saragarhi Memorial Meritorious School, Hakumat Singh Wala, Ferozepur, under the Ghall Khurd Zone.
The tournament was inaugurated by Dr Satinder Singh, Principal-cum-Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary), who interacted with the participating teams and encouraged the players to compete with true sportsmanship.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Satinder Singh said that sports are not merely about winning or losing but are a powerful means of ensuring the physical, mental and moral development of students. He emphasised that sporting activities help cultivate discipline, tolerance, teamwork, leadership qualities and punctuality among young players.
He said the Punjab Government and the Education Department are making sustained efforts to promote a vibrant sports culture at the school level so that hidden talent among students can be identified and nurtured. "Today's students are the future national and international sportspersons," he remarked, urging participants to strictly follow the rules of the game and accept both victory and defeat with grace.
Dr Satinder Singh also appreciated the efforts of the zone committee, organisers, officials, referees and coaches for ensuring the smooth conduct of the tournament and providing students with an ideal platform to showcase their sporting talent.
Among those present were Sukirti Sharma (School In-charge), Baljinder Singh (Zone Secretary), Rajvir Singh (Zone Committee Member), Mani Kamboj (DPE), Ajay Kumar, Maninder Singh, Jaswinder Singh (Lecturer), Malkiat Singh (DPE) and Gurbhej Singh (Lecturer).
The opening day witnessed enthusiastic participation from teams representing various schools, with the sports arena echoing with the spirit of healthy competition, discipline and teamwork. Organisers expressed confidence that the tournament would further inspire students to actively participate in sports and develop their athletic potential.
