Punjab: Three workers fall into 25-foot pit at rice mill, rescued

Sultanpur Lodhi (Punjab), August 16, 2026: Panic spread at a rice mill on the Sultanpur Lodhi-Jabbowal road after three workers fell into a nearly 25-foot-deep pit while digging a well on the premises on Sunday.
According to the information available, the workers were digging a well measuring around five feet in width when they suddenly lost their balance and fell into the pit. The incident triggered chaos at the mill, with people gathering at the spot as efforts began to rescue the trapped workers.
On receiving information, the police, health department and rescue teams reached the site and launched an operation to bring the workers out. After considerable effort, all three workers were safely rescued from the pit.
The workers were subsequently taken to Civil Hospital, Sultanpur Lodhi, where doctors examined them. Dr Arpan Sangar said their condition was stable and that all three were out of danger. The workers have been identified as residents of Rori village in Sirsa district of Haryana.
A companion of the workers, Gursewak Singh, said the accident happened suddenly but prompt action by the administration helped prevent a more serious incident.
Duty Officer Mahavir Singh said rescue teams were dispatched immediately after the incident was reported and successfully brought the three workers to safety.
Fortunately, no loss of life was reported in the incident. Authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
