Food Safety Drive in Ferozepur: 420 kg suspected products seized, 600 kg sweets and khoya destroyed
Ferozepur, August 18, 2026: The Food Safety Department, conducted an intensive enforcement drive in Makhu and Ferozepur, taking action against 420 kg of suspected food products and destroying around 600 kg of khoya and sweets to prevent their misuse and protect public health.
At a Bikaner sweets shop/workshop in Makhu, officials collected samples of suspected khoya being transported from Rajasthan. Around 300 kg of khoya was found in unhygienic conditions and emitting a foul smell. Considering it unfit for human consumption, the entire quantity was destroyed/disposed of as per prescribed norms.
The team also found around 300 kg of insect-infested sweets, including rasgullas, which were removed from human consumption and destroyed to prevent their possible misuse.
At Balaji Sweets in Ferozepur, around 120 kg of patisa arriving from Moga was detained/sealed on suspicion and samples were collected for laboratory testing. The inspection also revealed deficiencies in cleanliness and hygiene, following which the food business operator was directed to improve sanitation and comply with food safety standards.
The department stated that no compromise with consumer health would be tolerated and urged food business operators to strictly follow food safety and hygiene norms.
Abhinav Khosla, Food Safety Officer appealed to the public to purchase food products from FSSAI-licensed or registered food businesses and report any suspected or unsafe food items to the department.
