On August 31st, 2026, a critical review meeting was held at the District Administrative Complex in Ludhiana to evaluate the readiness for Phase-II of Census 2027, focusing on Population Enumeration. This meeting was chaired by Dr. Navjot Khosa, IAS, Director of Census Operations, Punjab.
The session saw participation from key officials including Himanshu Jain, IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer, Ludhiana; Ojasvi Alankar, IAS Commissioner-Principal Census Officer, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana; Ms. Shikha Bhagat, PCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner; along with Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Joint Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Tehsildars, Charge Officers, and other officials involved in Census duties.
Dr. Khosa commenced the meeting by expressing her gratitude for the hard work and dedication shown by the Charge Officers and field personnel, which resulted in the successful and timely completion of Phase-I – House Listing and Housing Census (HLO) operations in Ludhiana, despite it being the most populous district in Punjab.
Emphasizing the importance of meticulous planning and seamless inter-departmental coordination, Dr. Khosa instructed that all pending activities related to Census 2027 be completed within the specified timelines. She particularly commended the exemplary work done in high-priority and high-density areas, especially those under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana.
The Director further directed the Principal Census Officers and other Census Officers to ensure all necessary administrative and logistical arrangements are in place to facilitate a smooth, efficient, and effective conduct of Population Enumeration.
Himanshu Jain assured that the District Administration, in close collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana, would provide all necessary support. He emphasized that all Census-related activities would be completed within the stipulated timeframe, adhering strictly to the guidelines issued by the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India. This commitment aims to ensure the collection of accurate, authentic, and reliable data.
A detailed roadmap for the timely and smooth conduct of Phase-II of Census 2027 was thoroughly discussed during the meeting. While reviewing the preparation status of the District Census Handbook (DCHB), Dr. Khosa instructed all Charge Officers to expedite the compilation and vetting of Village Directory and Town Directory data along with map preparations. She emphasized that these tasks must be completed in all respects before the deadline on September 8th, 2026.
The Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officers reassured that both the DCHB exercise and preparatory works for Phase-II would be completed within the prescribed timeline. They also committed to providing all necessary assistance to Charge Officers to ensure accurate data collection and compilation.
This meeting underscores the collective commitment and coordinated efforts required to successfully carry out a national exercise as significant as Census 2027. With meticulous planning and dedicated execution, District Ludhiana is poised to contribute effectively to this crucial demographic undertaking.
